Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo™. Since 2005, MCFA has proudly served as the Official Lift Truck Provider for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ (HL SR). Along with local dealer, Adobe Equipment Houston, LLC , more than 80 lift trucks are provided to prepare the world’s largest livestock show and richest regular-season rodeo for more than 2.2 million visitors. The lift trucks are used throughout the 260-acre Reliant Park to keep the show moving, including setting-up the stage equipment for nightly performances and moving animal feed, hay and food supplies. Throughout its 75-year history, the HL SR has become a major multimillion dollar educational program, committing more than $265 million to the youth of Texas.

Big Brothers Big SIsters. MCFA continues to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston (BBBS) through Youth Night at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™. Each year, MCFA nvites 25 BBBS “Big” and “Little” pairs to a fun-filled night where they participate in a scavenger hunt, a behind-the-scenes tour and action-packed rodeo events. BBBS is the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, and makes meaningful matches between adult volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles), ages 6 through 18. Through the positive impact of these friendships, children with a Big Brother or Big Sister are more likely to graduate from high school and are less likely to be influenced by or to engage in negative behaviors.

$5,000 Educational Scholarships. Each year, MCFA awards $5,000 scholarships to two outstanding Houston-area high school seniors in pursuit of higher education in a mechanical engineering or business-related field. Hundreds of applications are received, and the deserving students are chosen and recognized each year for their exceptional academic record, extracurricular activities and commitment to the community. Under this program, MCFA has awarded more than $53,000 to Houston-area high school sudents over the last six years, demonstrating the company’s commitment to assist local youth.

Susan G. Koman Race For The Cure. MCFA joined the movement in the fight against breast cancer in 2010 by sponsoring a team of employees who participated in the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a series of 5K runs and fitness walks dedicated to raising money for breast cancer research. The Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure is the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. To date, the Houston affiliate has awarded more than $22 million in grants for breast cancer education, screening and treatment in the seven county service area and donated more than $7 million for breast cancer research to help find a cure for this disease.

School Supply Drive Benefiting Youth. Each year, the employees at MCFA support the local school district by sponsoring a school supply drive benefiting local area elementary school children. For two weeks, employees donate pens, pencils, notebooks, folders and even pre-made kits designed by the Houston-area Spring Branch Independent School District to help enrich the learning experience of local students. Any monetary donations are used to purchase supplies in bulk. MCFA has made this effort over the past three years with the goal of ensuring these students have what they need to succeed in school.

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center Award. Statistics show that 60% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood, but only 5% ever make a contribution. MCFA is intent on increasing that percentage by holding on-site employee blood drives once every three months. According to the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, each donation helps save as many as three lives. Over the last 11 years, MCFA has conducted 67 blood drives and collected a total of 1,930 units of blood, with an average of nearly 30 donations per drive. In 2010, MCFA exceeded its goal and donated more than 90 units of blood. MCFA was also honored as a gold-level donor group at the Blood Center’s annual celebration.

Habitat For Humanity. In 2010, MCFA donated a 36-volt 4,000 lb. capacity reach truck to the Houston Habitat for Humanity to assist with the lifting and moving of construction materials in its warehouse. The donation, which is valued at $28,000, is comparable to underwriting more than two days worth of construction on a five-day house build. According to General Manager Fred  Garza, Houston Habitat’s warehouse has actually revamped its floor plan, increasing floor space by almost 40% with the usage of the new equipment. To put this in perspective, Houston Habitat for Humanity was able to build over 20 homes in 2010 with the profits from the warehouse, something Garza says, they would not be able to do without the new forklift.
